Aid through Adventure by Champions for Change

Aid through Adventure by Champions for Change

Down rough roads and over mountains, they traveled long miles to reach thousands of Nepalese families in need. Adventurers for Change knew they had the power and passion for change. This week, LuminAID is proud to congratulate the Adventurers for Change team for reaching the epicenter of last year’s quake and distributing much needed energy aid to so many families along the way! This group of young volunteers made their way through the Himalayas to bring LuminAID lights to 300 families and 4 school districts across the region displaced by last year’s devastating Nepal earthquake. And we’re so glad they did.

Their adventure began last year when Adventurers for Change were moved by the stories of displaced families and inaccessible schools. They began Operation Nepal then when they provided generators and meals to those in need, helping make lives a little easier for over 10,000 Nepalese rebuilding their homes and communities. Since then, Adventurers for Change has been hard at work. This spring the launched another campaign to use their energy to help Nepal…this time with hundreds of LuminAID lights in tow.

Adventurers for Change were excited to see the effect of their solar packages which included permanent solar installations as well as the portable LuminAID lights. Sharing some of the impact of the LuminAID lights, co-founder Max wrote, “It’s hard to express how perfectly matched the LuminAID product was with this project. From using the LuminAIDs to light up our Tentsile campsite, to providing light while handing out our solar panels to families in the middle of the night...honestly LuminAID rocks!”

With this recent collaboration with Adventurers for Change, this marks yet another way Team LuminAID has been able to bring much-needed aid to families rebuilding in Nepal. LuminAID’s dedication to meaningful and lasting energy aid has extended to a wide variety of projects which include the Female Friendly Space project with the United Nations Population Fund, an immediate response effort with the Nepali Children's Education Project (NCEP), a group of Peace Corps volunteers with boundless energy, long-term response through Empower Nepali Girls, and distribution in ShelterBox family aid kits. The work of Adventurers for Change has created a new way to access those in need and responds to another facet of the continuing work still needed to help the region rebuild.

Adventurers for Change is improving conditions and expanding educational opportunities for communities recovering from the earthquake through their solar distribution. LuminAID recognizes the incredible energy of this group of passionate individuals, and their mission for positive change in the world. We know that our dedication for meaningful social impact is shared. That’s why Team LuminAID has been so inspired by this recent creative collaboration with Adventurers for Change, and can’t wait to see what they do in the future.

Women’s Global Education Project (WGEP) is a Chicago-based NGO focused on advancing education and literacy in rural Africa. In Senegal where we work, two-thirds of women aged 15 and up cannot read or write and only 27% of girls go to secondary school (UNESCO). Moreover, in the Fatik region of Senegal, 90% of schools lack libraries or reading rooms (ACR). WGEP is working to change this.
