How We're Supporting Our Nonprofit Community During COVID-19

  • 2 min read

Dear Nonprofit Partners and Friends,

During times of crisis, many find comfort in this well-known quote from Fred Rogers (better known as Mr. Rogers):

“My mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’”

Whether the crisis is an earthquake, a hurricane, or a pandemic, there are always those who step up to help.  We’re honored to have had the opportunity to work with many amazing helpers over the past 10 years. In particular: you, our community of nonprofit partners and friends.

Though the COVID-19 pandemic is a crisis that calls for a different type of response than a hurricane or an earthquake, we're proud to see people mobilizing to help those who are vulnerable and to keep each other safe, healthy, and fed.  We are grateful to frontline healthcare workers, as well as restaurant, grocery, and delivery workers, and everyone who is staying home right now and practicing social distancing.

We’re also looking ahead to the future, and participating in discussions on how the COVID-19 coronavirus and travel restrictions will impact nonprofit budgets, crisis zones, shipping costs, and mechanisms for distributing humanitarian aid.  We know Wildfire Season and Hurricane Season are approaching soon here in the US and Caribbean, and want to make sure we are doing everything we can to be prepared and ready to assist nonprofits and community groups who will be responding.

As you know, one of our big projects has been expanding the LuminAID for Nonprofits program to provide a community and resources for nonprofits that go beyond our subsidies, including our Facebook Group and guides for fundraising and international travel.  We have added a new Nonprofit Resources section to our website, and will be updating this regularly with tools for remote work, discounts and grants for nonprofits, and more.

We encourage you to join our Facebook Group and share resources and strategies that may be helpful to others.  We know this is a time of uncertainty for both your humanitarian projects and your teams, and hope that through sharing knowledge and resources, we can support each other.

What else would you like to know about? Do you have something to share with the nonprofit community? You can submit an entry to the directory here, or post in our Facebook Group.

Thank you and be well,

Daphna Gall
