Last November, LuminAID partnered with the Himalayan Stove Project, a US Based humanitarian and philanthropic program, to help them distribute lights in Nepal after the earthquake. This is their story.

The Himalayan Stove Project is a US Based humanitarian and philanthropic program. We are dedicated to preserving the Himalayan environment and improving the health of people living in the trans-Himalayan region. We donate and distribute free, clean-burning, fuel-efficient ‘Envirofitclean’ cookstoves. These stoves transform the lives of individuals, families and communities who usually cook with traditional, rudimentary stoves, or over open fire pits inside their homes. This consumes excessive amounts of precious fuel, and pollutes the indoor air to dangerously unhealthy levels, as well as releasing vast amounts of black carbon into the atmosphere.

We focus on our mission of improving people's’ health (and the environment) through providing clean cookstoves. That said, in the aftermath of the devastating Nepal Earthquakes in 2015 we saw that we could support the recovery of our recipient families by adding lighting to the mix. The ingenious LuminAID lights were perfect - simple to use, portable, and more than adequate to provide great lighting flexibility under very difficult circumstances, they "brightened" the lives of the people we were helping.

We also partnered with Grassroots Movement in Nepal, another NGO doing wonderful work. They are helping the town of Sanagau near Sankhu, to rebuild. We distributed 55 lights to them to help in their mission to provide light and safety to the villagers. The lights were invaluable.
